Nyungwe Forest is semi heaven for birders. With a little over 300 recorded bird species, 26 of which are endemic, making it one of the most important – and still little known – bird-watching destinations in Africa. Lunch en route or at the lodge depending on time. You will have a nature walk to the forest to trek other primates such as L’Hoest’s monkey, Angola colobus, Silver monkey, Hamlyn’s Monkey, Dent’s Mona Monkey, Red-tailed Monkey, Grey-cheeked Mangabeys, and Olive Baboon. The park has many individuals and often you can even find a group of more than 100 individuals while on this trek. Just like the other primates, it is best to track them in morning when they are active feeding and grooming before they rest. There is a semi habituated group in Nyungwe forest which makes the experience even more intriguing as you find them. The Colobus monkeys are more active than the chimpanzees keeping you entertained as you watch them and because they are many in number, you will have much more photographic opportunities.
