05 DAYS KIDEPO VALLEY NATIONAL PARK

Akidepu is the local word that mean to pick or gather where the park gets its name. History has it that the famous Borassus palm trees used to be a source of food during days of famine and the local people would to the valley pick fruits for food and thus the name Kidepo. Kidepo is not only famous for the blue ragged stunning backdropped mountains and culture, but also its unique biodiversity is something to explore and enjoy. We have put together a five days safari to explore the Africa’s true wilderness and described by CNN travel magazine.

  • There is a domestic flight from Kidepo to Entebbe and it takes about 2 hours.
  • This itinerary can be combined with Murchison falls if clients have an extra day.
  • This safari can as well be combined with Pian Upe and Sipi falls as well.

ITINERARY

Upon arrival, you will be meet by Ropani tours and travel guide or safari representative and transfer to your guest house/hotel for overnight.

After your early breakfast (we recommend 6:00am) we depart from Entebbe for Kidepo Valley National Park. While the journey from Kampal to Kidepo is famously long, its also key to note that the drive is fascinating with a lot to explore while undertaking the 12-hour in your 4x4 safari vehicle. Hot lunch will served en route most preferably Gulu town and we proceed further to the north through Kitugum to Kidepo. While on the road, watch out the residents digging with the rudimentary tools such as the hand-held hoes in the maize farmlands, Children and adults looking after cattle, cyclist with bunches of matooke on the bicycle among others. Dinner and overnight at the edge or inside the park.

An early breakfast will be served and head out to traverse the vast plains of Kidepo national park. The park is blessed with abundant wildlife and famous for its masses of buffalo herds that range in hundreds to thousands. Apart from Pian Upe wildlife reserve, cheetahs have also been sighted in Kidepo though on rare occasions. Other wildlife to look out for include, the African elephants, The cape buffaloes where byu this park boots big herds and masses than anywhere else on the African continent, Zebras, Jacksons Hartebeests, Rothschild Giraffes, Elands and many bird species such as Verreauxs Eagle, Kori bastard, common ostrich, Karamoja Apalis that can be sighted in this park. We will dedicate this day for game drives both morning and evening discovering several tracks in search of big game, enjoying the serine beauty of Kidepo and her rugged blue mountains that make it perfect for photographic moments, and capturing the memories. Dinner and overnight at the lodge.

Depending on you experience the previous day, you will agree with your guide what time to have your breakfast, then head for a game drive or visit the local community for a cultural insight of the Karamajong people. We recommend you do a morning game drive and visit the local community mid-morning where you will be able to find them going on with their everyday life. In the afternoon, you rest or enjoy swimming at your cozy lodge and later in evening conduct another game drive. Kidepo is prime game viewing parks with animals like the African elephants, Zebras, Giraffes, Elands, Buffaloes, Lions, Leopards, Hyenas and several bird species including, Verreauxs Eagle, Kori bastard, common ostrich, Karamoja Apalis among others.

After breakfast, we will depart Kidepo very morning and head back to Entebbe for your international flight. Kindly note that this is along drive and time keeping is crucial. An early hot lunch will be served in Gulu town and proceed to Entebbe for a late flight or overnight.
